Continuing Google AdWords™ education
Whether you manage your AdWords account or work with
someone who does, it's important to have the information you need to
make informed decisions. This is the driving factor behind two new online
resources linked from the Google
Advertising overview page. In addition to the many other educational
pieces available, you'll find 'Tutorials and Guides' and 'News and Updates'
sections (described below).
Tutorials and Guides
This section houses our easy-to-follow online AdWords tutorials as well
as new reference guides, both of which focus on specific topics within
AdWords that will help you get the most out of your advertising investment.
In addition to the existing Keyword Matching Options tutorial, you'll
find 6 new guides and a new tutorial ('Understanding Conversion Tracking').
News and Updates
This section is a centralized repository for past editions of The
Top Result as well as other notifications and updates regarding
AdWords and product changes that affect your account.
New features
Google AdWords is excited to announce the latest AdWords features designed with you in mind. With the help of advertiser feedback, we've enhanced the information available to you in your AdWords account and how it's displayed. Here are some of the updates you'll notice in your account:
- Keyword status column in reports
This column on the keyword summary page indicates how well your keywords are performing on Google.com. This is the performance (clickthrough rate - CTR) used to determine ad rank and keyword disabling. With this new information, you'll be able to identify your highest-performing keywords and get advance notice if any of your keywords are at risk of being disabled and in need of improvement.
- Billing Summary
With a cleaner and more user-friendly design, the billing summary is now easier to read and includes both a high-level view and detailed breakdown of all of your charges, payments, and billing adjustments. If you have any questions about how to interpret your new billing summary, you'll find a diagram on our Account Navigation page.
- Account Budgets
The new 'Budget' link under the 'My Account' tab gives you easy access to the details of your contracted account budgets. Combined with a series of related alerts that will appear on the campaign summary page, you'll be able to better manage your ad delivery. For example, you'll know when the combined daily budget for your campaigns exceeds your prorated account budget, causing you to serve your entire budget before your account end date.
- New layout for the Ad Group page and inline ad disapproval reasons
If your Ad Group contains more than one ad, your ads will be organized beneath the keyword table. Explanations for disapproved ads within Ad Groups and links to the appropriate section of the Editorial Guidelines will also save you time and help you get your ads up and running again.
- Auto-optimization of ads
If one of your ads in an Ad Group performs better than the others, wouldn't you want to know about it and display it as frequently as possible? Ad optimization does this for you. All you have to do is create multiple ads within an Ad Group. We'll automatically monitor the CTR of each ad and show the better performing ads more often than ads with lower CTRs. If you'd like to turn off this auto-optimization feature and have each ad in an Ad Group show in an even rotation, you can edit your campaign settings by following these steps.
Tip: Remember that highly targeted ads such as ads geared towards special offers or products tend to perform best, and even the smallest wording changes between ads can make a huge difference in results.
Google AdWords ads on Newsweek and more sites
Google is excited to announce the expansion of our ad network. AdWords ads targeted to the U.S. now appear on the content pages of:
|
|
These sites are in addition to our existing search and content partners such as AOL, AskJeeves, New York Post Online Edition, and more. Your ads will be displayed on more web pages, bringing you even more customers.
Unless you've specified otherwise, your ads could automatically appear across all of the search and content sites in our ad network. So, if you want your ads to run on Google as well as the sites and products in our ad network, you don't need to do a thing. You can read more about the Google ad network and find out how to view or edit your distribution preference in our FAQ.
Google AdWords account access temporarily unavailable on Sunday, December 14th
Beginning at approximately 11 A.M. Pacific Standard Time (PST) Sunday, December 14th, the AdWords website will be temporarily offline for system upgrades. During the AdWords downtime, ads will still be served and statistics collected; however, you will not be able to access the AdWords website or your AdWords account. We estimate that the updates should take 4-6 hours. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience as we strive to continue providing you with the most effective advertising available.
